I was reading a CNN article today that made so much sense in this day and time. It gave 8 different "feel-good" websites to go to that would shed some sort of light on todays grim news. Not that I was feeling down today or anything, but it's very uplifting to see these things. There were two that definitely stuck out in my mind more than the others and will get multiple returns via my computer.
The first one was ZooBorns. It's a site that has pictures/videos of baby animals that have been born in zoos or aquariums around the world. If a baby animal, whatever the species, does not bring a smile or at least a sigh of joy to you, seek help. There is quit possibly something clinically wrong with you. My favorite, posted July 27, 2010 features a baby manatee that was abandoned by its mother. For as long as I can remember now, manatees have held a special place in my heart. I can remember being young, 7 maybe, and asking my mom if we could do one of those adoptions through the mail. You don't actually take the animal home. They just send of a picture of which one you are sponsoring. It never happened unfortunately, but it's still something I would love to do. Manatees are the most tender animals and wouldn't hurt a fly. They just float around and eat all day. (Side note: This is how I will return in my next life...) I just hope there isn't another freeze that causes so many deaths. The species probably will not be able to handle another hit like that, especially back-to-back. Not to mention all of the irresponsible boat drivers who hit them with their boats, cutting them. None-the-less, I digress...
The other favorite from the list was 1000 Awesome Things. It's very much like the overly forwarded "you know you're getting old if..." email. We all sit there and read it shaking our heads and hoping there is at least ONE that doesn't apply. This site is sort-of like that because this guy started a countdown in 2008 at 1000 listing the small things in life that make us happy. Not only do you read it shaking your head "yes" and smiling, but it's also a nice reminder that we should cherish more of those little things such as #452 Picking Things Up with Your Feet. Who doesn't love having monkey toes as they are so often referred?!
